How to Make 4th of July Bark
Melt semi-sweet chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
Pour chocolate onto your lined baking pan and spread it out into a thin, even layer. Pop it in the fridge for a few minutes to harden.

Next, melt your white chocolate chips using the same method. Pour it right on top of the hardened semi-sweet layer and smooth out gently. Chill in the fridge to set.

Now for the fun part! Melt your red, white and blue candy melts in separate bowls. Use a spoon or small piping bags to drizzle the colors over the white chocolate.

Then grab a toothpick and gently swirl everything together to create that marbled, firework-inspired look. While the chocolate is still a little soft, sprinkle on your toppings—M&Ms and festive sprinkles.
Once everything looks just right, let the whole tray chill until completely firm. Then lift the bark out of the pan using the parchment edges and break it into pieces. That’s it, it’s ready to serve and impress!
Recipe and Serving Tips
- Prevent sticking. Line the baking sheet or 9×13 pan with parchment paper—that way the patriotic bark won’t stick and cleanup will be a breeze.
- Water seizes chocolate. Make sure bowls and utensils are bone-dry for a glossy finish.
- Marble like a pro: Work quickly, colored melts start setting within minutes. If they firm up too soon, flash the pan in a warm (not hot) oven for 10 seconds.
- Serving: You could include the bark on a dessert board with my red, white and blue puppy chow, dipped pretzels, and strawberries, use it as a party favor with bags and a ribbon, or add it on to a firework night s’mores set up.

Variations
- Dark-side bark: Swap white chips for dark chocolate and drizzle with tinted white melts.
- Pop-rock surprise: Sprinkle popping candy just before serving for a fireworks-in-your-mouth effect.
- Sweet-salty twist: Drizzle warmed peanut butter or caramel over the finished bark.
- Extra crunch: Press in popcorn, Oreo chunks, or chopped toasted almonds.
Storage & Make-Ahead
- Store at room temp: Store leftover Independence Day bark in an airtight container for 3–5 days away from sunlight.
- Refrigerate: Optional in hot climates; chocolate may bloom but is still safe.
- Do not freeze: Moisture causes discoloration and a dull finish.

4th of July Bark
Equipment
Ingredients
- 2 cup white chocolate chips
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup red candy melts
- 1/2 cup white candy melts
- 1/2 cup blue candy melts
- 1 Tablespoons red, white and blue star sprinkles
- 1/4 cup red, white and blue M&Ms
Instructions
- Prepare the baking sheet: Line a baking tray with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Melt semi-sweet chocolate: Begin by melting the semi-sweet chocolate morsels. You can do this in a microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring between each, until smooth.
- Layer melted chocolate: Pour the melted semi-sweet chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading it into an even layer. Allow this layer to harden completely. You can speed up this process by placing the tray in the refrigerator.
- Add the white chocolate layer: Melt the white chocolate morsels using the same method as before. Once melted, pour it over the hardened semi-sweet chocolate layer. Let this white chocolate layer harden completely before proceeding.
- Drizzle the candy melts: Melt the red, white, and blue candy melts separately. You can use small piping bags or a spoon to drizzle each color over the hardened white chocolate layer.
- Use a toothpick to swirl the colors gently, creating a marbled effect. Do this before the candy melts harden to ensure a smooth pattern.
- Decorate: Sprinkle the red, white, and blue star sprinkles and M&Ms over the top while the candy melts are still slightly soft to ensure they stick.
- Final hardening: Allow the entire tray to harden completely, either at room temperature or in the refrigerator if you're in a hurry.
- Break into pieces: Once fully set, lift the bark out of the tray using the edges of the parchment paper and break it into pieces by hand. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature or in the fridge.
