- Oreo cookies: Use regular Oreos, filling included. They blend into a soft, truffle-like base once mixed with the cream cheese. No need to remove the cream.
- Cream cheese: Softened cream cheese helps everything mix smoothly. Full-fat cream cheese from a block works best for a rich, sturdy filling.
- Green candy melts: These give the Oreo balls their “Grinch green” color and a smooth, even coating. Melt slowly in the microwave to avoid overheating. Almond bark or white chocolate with green food coloring can also work.
- Red heart sprinkles: The signature Grinch touch. Add them right after dipping so they stick to the warm coating.
How to Make Grinch Oreo Balls
Start by crushing the Oreos into fine crumbs using a food processor.

Beat the softened cream cheese in a bowl until smooth, then mix in the Oreo crumbs until the mixture is fully combined and easy to shape.

Scoop the mixture into small portions and roll into smooth balls with your hands. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and chill until firm.
While they’re chilling, melt the green candy melts in the microwave in short bursts, stirring until smooth.

Dip each cold Oreo ball into the melted coating, let the excess drip off, and place it back on the tray.
Add a red heart sprinkle to the top before the coating sets. Chill again until fully hardened and they’re ready to serve.

Recipe Tips
- No food processor? If you don’t have one, place the Oreos in a zip-top bag and crush them with a rolling pin until very fine.
- Chill or freeze: Refrigerating the rolled balls helps them keep their shape when dipping, but you can speed things up by freezing them for about 30 minutes. Just don’t let them freeze solid.
- Easy chocolate drizzle: For a fancier finish, melt a small amount of candy melts, spoon it into a zip-top bag, snip a tiny corner, and quickly drizzle over the dipped Oreo balls.
- Try different Oreo flavors: Swap in seasonal Oreos to change the flavor. Red Velvet works great for a deeper chocolate taste, or use Mint Oreos for fun “Grinch mint” truffles.

FAQs
Make sure the Oreo balls are chilled but not frozen solid before dipping. If they’re too cold, the warm candy coating can crack as it sets. Let them sit at room temp for 5–10 minutes after chilling, then dip.
Yes. White candy melts work the same way, just add a few drops of green food coloring to get that Grinch shade.
Yes, but they can melt thicker and may need a little help thinning out. Add 1–2 teaspoons of coconut oil or shortening when melting to create a smoother dipping consistency.
Store dipped Grinch Oreo Balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Keep layers separated with parchment paper to protect the coating.
They can also be frozen before dipping for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator, then dip and decorate as usual for the best texture and finish.
