Grinch Inspired Christmas Bark

There’s something about bright green holiday treats that just feels extra fun, and this homemade Grinch Bark delivers every bit of that playful energy. It’s made with melted white chocolate swirled with Grinch-green coloring, then topped with festive sprinkles and candy hearts for that classic “small heart growing three sizes” look.

If you love cute and simple Christmas treats, this bark is right up there with our Grinch Oreo Balls and fun themed treats like my fourth of July bark. Both come together quickly, require just a few basic ingredients, and make great holiday gifts or party snacks. Break the bark into pieces once it sets and watch it disappear fast.

  • White chocolate: Use good quality white chocolate chips or melting wafers so the bark melts smoothly. Wafers melt a little easier, but either works well.
  • Green food coloring: A gel-based green food coloring gives the brightest Grinch color without thinning the chocolate. Add just a few drops to create those fun swirls.
  • Sprinkles: Christmas jimmies or nonpareils add color and crunch. Use whatever festive mix you like or match your holiday theme.
  • Red heart sprinkles: These give the bark its signature “Grinch heart” look. Press them gently into the chocolate so they stay in place once the bark sets.

How to Make Grinch Bark for Christmas

Start by lining a half sheet pan with parchment paper so the bark lifts right off once it sets. Melt the white chocolate in a microwave safe bowl, heating in 20–30 second bursts and stirring between each round until it’s smooth and glossy.

Pour the melted chocolate onto the parchment and spread it into an even rectangle. Add a few drops of green food coloring around the surface, then use a butter knife to lightly swirl the colors together. You want ribbons of green without fully mixing it in.

While the chocolate is still warm, sprinkle the jimmies over the top and place the red hearts wherever you want that classic Grinch look. Press the hearts gently so they stick. Let the bark set at room temperature or pop it in the freezer to speed things up.

Once firm, break the slab into pieces and enjoy.

Recipe Tips

  • Melt slowly and stir often: White chocolate can scorch easily, so microwave it in short bursts and stir well to keep it smooth.
  • Don’t over swirl: A few gentle passes with a knife is all you need. Too much mixing turns the whole batch green instead of giving you those Grinchy streaks.
  • Press the hearts in: Place the red heart sprinkles while the chocolate is still soft and press lightly so they stay put once the bark sets.
  • Chill to set faster: Let the bark firm up in the freezer for 15–20 minutes if you’re short on time. It pops right off the parchment once cold.
  • Break, don’t cut: Use your hands to snap the bark into irregular pieces. It gives the best texture and that classic chocolate bark look.

Notes

I like to add 1/2 Tablespoon of coconut oil to make the chocolate glossy and smooth.
You could also use Green candy melts instead of green food coloring. Melt according to package directions, dollop over the white chocolate and swirl the two chocolates together.
Store in an airtight container up for 7 days or in the freezer for 2 months.

Variations

  • Use dark chocolate: Swap the white chocolate for dark chocolate to give the bark a deeper, richer flavor, similar to my Halloween bark.
  • Try candy melts: Green candy melts work great if you want a twist without using food coloring.
  • Add mix-ins: Stir in crushed peppermint candies, mini marshmallows, or even pretzel pieces before the chocolate sets for extra crunch.
  • Change the sprinkles: Use any festive sprinkle mix you love. Red hearts give it the Grinch look, but Christmas trees, stars, or gold sprinkles all work too.

FAQs

Can I use candy melts instead of white chocolate?

Yes. Green candy melts work great if you want to skip food coloring, and white candy melts melt a bit easier than chocolate chips.

How do I keep the chocolate from seizing?

Make sure your bowl and utensils are completely dry and melt the chocolate slowly. Even a small amount of water can cause it to thicken.

How do I store the bark?

Store the pieces in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, refrigerate or freeze in a sealed container. It’s cold where I live so I often store it on the porch in a covered container or garage!
