- Spinach: Fresh spinach gives the smoothie its vibrant green color and mild flavor. Baby spinach is tender and blends easily.
- Green apple: Crisp and tart, it balances the sweetness of mango and honey. Core and chop before adding.
- Frozen mango: Adds natural sweetness and creamy texture. Frozen fruit helps keep the smoothie cold without extra ice.
- Almond milk: Unsweetened almond milk keeps it light, but you can use your favorite milk.
- Coconut water: Adds a refreshing, slightly sweet flavor. Substitute with plain water if preferred.
- Ground flaxseed: Adds fiber, omega-3s, and a nutty flavor boost.
- Honey: Sweetens naturally; adjust the amount to taste or omit for a more earthy taste in the green apple smoothie.
- Ice : Thickens and chills the apple spinach smoothie for a refreshing finish.
How to Make Spinach Green Apple Smoothie
Start by adding your liquids to the blender first, almond milk and coconut water go in the bottom so everything blends smoothly. Next, toss in the spinach, green apple chunks, frozen mango, ground flaxseed, honey, and finally a handful of ice on top.

Blend until the mixture is creamy and bright green. Give it a taste and adjust as needed, add more honey if you like it sweeter or a splash of water if you prefer a thinner smoothie. Pour into a glass and enjoy right away while it’s cold and refreshing.

Recipe Tips
- Add liquid first. Pour the almond milk and coconut water into the blender before adding spinach or fruit. This keeps the blades moving smoothly and helps everything blend evenly.
- Use ground flaxseed. Ground flax mixes in better than whole seeds and makes it easier for your body to absorb the nutrients.
- Freeze your fruit. Frozen mango (or even apple chunks) makes the spinach green apple smoothie extra cold and creamy without needing too much ice.
- Blend longer than you think. Keep the blender running for at least a minute until the smoothie is silky and all the spinach is broken down. I have a Vitamix and still adhere to this tip!
- Taste and adjust. Green apples vary in tartness, so you may want to add more honey or almond milk until it’s just right for you. When I made this green apple spinach smoothie, it tasted best with 2 Tablespoons of honey!
- Stop and stir if needed. If ingredients get stuck, pause to scrape down the sides or use a tamper to push everything into the blades.

Equipment
Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh spinach
- 1 green apple , cored and chopped
- 1/2 cup frozen mango chunks , heaping
- 1 cup almond milk , I used unsweetened
- 1/2 cup coconut water , or water
- 1 Tablespoon ground flaxseed
- 1-2 Tablespoons honey , adjust for sweetness
- ice , handful
Instructions
- Prep. Wash and dry spinach then core green apple, cut in half then chop into a few pieces.
- Add spinach, apple, mango, almond milk, coconut water, ground flaxseed, honey and ice to a blender.
- Blend, taste and adjust for sweetness then enjoy immediately.
Notes
- Adjust sweetness to your desired taste.Â
- Add 1/2 frozen banana for a thicker texture.Â
- Optional smoothie boosters: Pinch of cinnamon, 1 Tablespoon fresh ginger, handful of fresh parsley, 1 Tablespoon lemon, or 1 Tablespoon yogurt.
Variations
- Add yogurt. I stirred in 1 tablespoon of yogurt once because I needed to use it up, and it made the smoothie extra creamy with a little tang.
- Fresh ginger. I don’t usually love the taste of ginger, but it really does help settle my sensitive stomach, so some days I add a little knob when I need that soothing kick.
- Citrus boost. A squeeze of lemon juice brightens the flavor and balances the greens.
- Parsley. This gives more of a green juice flavor. If you love earthy tastes, I recommend tossing in a handful.
- Banana. Add ½ of a frozen banana for a thicker, sweeter smoothie.
- Swap pineapple for mango. Pineapple works perfectly in place of mango if that’s what you have on hand. It keeps the smoothie tropical, adds sweetness, and gives a bright tangy flavor.
Storage
This smoothie is best enjoyed fresh, but you don’t have to let any go to waste. The day I made it, I also blended up two other smoothies, and since there’s only so much smoothie I can drink at once, I poured the extras into an ice cube tray. Once frozen, the cubes are perfect to pop into a future morning smoothie for an instant nutrient boost and extra flavor.
