Ingredients

  • 1 red velvet cake , baked and cooled
  • 1 vanilla cake , baked, cooled and tinted green
  • 3 cups whipped cream
  • 1 cup cream cheese , softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Prep cakes. Bake the red velvet and green vanilla cakes according to your recipe or box instructions. Let them cool completely, then crumble them into medium chunks.
  • Make cream layer. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth. Fold in the whipped cream until light and fluffy.
  • Build trifle. Add a layer of red velvet cake to the bottom of trifle cups. Spoon a layer of the cream mixture over the top. Add a layer of green cake, followed by more cream. Continue layering until the cups are full.
  • Finish and chill. Spread the remaining cream mixture over the top. Sprinkle a mix of red and green cake crumbs for decoration. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving so the layers set.

Notes

Tint the vanilla cake before baking.
If you are making these ahead use a stabilized whipped cream such as Cool Whip.
You can make individual trifle cups in clear glasses, small mason jars or make one large trifle in a trifle dish.
