DON’T BE SPOOKED, THEY’RE JUST COOKIES!

Okay so, believe it or not, but Halloween cookies aren’t as popular where I’m from in Argentina, as they are here in the U.S. Why? Because Halloween isn’t as popular! So every chance I get to do something for Halloween, I’m on it.

Here’s what I love most about these homemade Halloween cookies:

  • The dough is homemade, molded from scratch.
  • The decorations are really cute to bring to Halloween parties.
  • The cookies are crumbly and soft, like molten lava, or hot crumb cake.

The best part of this recipe is that you can change the decorations and shapes, and they can fit the theme of any holiday!

What I Love About Homemade Halloween Cookies

There’s something special about baking cookies when you’re making the dough yourself. That’s right! This recipe is 100% made from scratch. You’ll be mixing the flour into squeezable dough, combining natural ingredients like unsweetened cocoa powder, walnuts for texture, vanilla extract, and a few others. In my husband’s exact words, “these are the best EVER brownies!” Let’s get right to it.

What’s In This Dish?

We have a really simple and delicious ingredient list for you.

  • All-purpose Flour
  • Sugar
  • Eggs
  • Baking Powder
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Squeezable Icing (optional)
  • M&Ms or Reese’s (optional)

Let’s Bake It!

We’ll start by pre-heating the oven to 350°F. Prepare the flour, baking soda, and sugar. Go ahead and sieve these three ingredients through a strainer into a large bowl.

Once they’re mixed, add in room-temperature butter, any flavorings such as vanilla extract, cocoa powder, lemon zest, or coconut, and mold the ingredients with your hands into dough.

Once you’ve got a nice ball of dough formed, press in the middle and make a hole. Add egg into the hole, then mix the egg into the dough with your hands until it’s soft.

Now sprinkle some flour on your counter and pound out the dough with a rolling pin until it’s wide enough to make roughly 9-10 cookies with.

Since it’s October, we had to have Halloween cookies decorated like bats, pumpkins, spiders, and ghosts! Use whatever shape cutters fit the season, and cut the dough into fun shapes and decorate them to your choosing!
