FRUIT OR VEGGIES – HOW ABOUT BOTH?

There’s nothing tastier than a classic green apples smoothie? Am I right? Add some spinach into the mix and we’re kicking things up a notch. Here’s what I love most about this fruit smoothie with spinach:

  • It provides TONS of vitamins and nutrients, like 100%+ DV of Vitamin A.
  • The sourness of the green apples compliments the tender spinach taste.
  • It can help to promote weight loss.

The best part of this recipe is that you can prepare everything and drink the whole thing in under 20 minutes, while it boasts an incredible amount of vitamins.

What I Love About Spinach And Green Apples Smoothie

This smoothie packs a punch. It’s got that “apple a day keeps the doctor away” vibe. When you add ice in it (which I definitely recommend) and a packet of sweetener, it becomes an extremely tasty smoothie. And your body will thank you. Not to mention it has oats, which helps with digestion, and a few other natural and highly beneficial ingredients like ginger and coconut oil.

What’s In This Dish?

The ingredients list for this smoothie is really simple and easy to find.

  • Spinach (I recommend organic)
  • Green apple
  • Oats
  • Cinnamon
  • Fresh ginger
  • Coconut oil
  • Filtered water
  • Sweetener, like Splenda (optional)
  • Ice (optional)

Let’s Blend It!

To spin things off the right way, we’ll be preparing a few cups of organic spinach and a green apple. Wash them with cold water (I always wash my fruits and veggies). Cut the green apple in half, throw away the core and stem, and chop it into a few small pieces.

Get your blender out, and rinse it with water. Next up is to add your spinach and apple pieces, then follow with the oats, cinnamon powder, ginger, coconut oil, and two packets of sweetener. The last step is to add a little filtered water, then ice last.

(For two servings, I usually use half a cup of ice. You don’t have to use ice, but it’s preferable, unless you like room-temperature smoothies. Always add ice last, so it doesn’t get stuck in the blades!)

Hit that blend button. And VOILA! You’ve got yourself a tasty, low-carb smoothie.

Healthy Smoothie Benefits

Because green smoothie recipes can’t exist without talking about their health benefits. This is a low carbs recipe, so it’s definitely a smoothie for diabetics. My husband has type 1 diabetes, so we’re really into the ‘health thing’.

To make this easy on everyone, I’ll list out the major benefits in a way that’s easy to read.

Spinach: Improves eye health, decreases oxidative stress (hey hey diabetics), and can work to prevent heart disease and cancers.

Oats: Lowers cholesterol, promotes healthy digestion, and is filling with low calories to help you lose weight.

Green apple: Has lots of vitamin A and C, antioxidants, and is beneficial for your skin and hair.

Ginger: A really powerful anti-inflammatory, fights off nausea, and helps to prevent heart disease.

Coconut oil: Has healthy fats that increase how many calories you burn, so can help with weight loss, promotes heart health, curbs hunger, and more!
